Charity & Community Work
At Roys, we consider ourselves a part of the community around all of our stores. We engage with the local area & do all we can to help wherever possible. After all, it's our customers & staff that have kept us going for 130 years so it is our privilege to give something back to the communities. We are inundated with requests from clubs, groups, charities, schools and many others asking for raffle prizes and products for events, last year we managed to help 315 charities & good causes.
Throughout 2025 in total we raised over £44,462 through 10p carrier bag sales, donations from the Making a Difference Locally Fund (MADL), raffle and product donations and raising money in other ways such as wearing fancy dress on special days and in-store collections.
Supporting the 2nd Sudbury Rainbows through MADL
At Roys, we are always delighted to support local groups that make a real difference in their communities. Recently, we were pleased to donate £250 from our MADL (Making a Difference Locally) fund to the 2nd Sudbury Rainbows after they got in touch with us following one of our social media posts about the fund.
The group explained that they were looking for support to purchase high-visibility vests so the Rainbows can safely enjoy walks together, as well as arts and crafts materials. Like many Rainbow groups, their members love to spend time drawing, colouring and crafting, so supplies such as pens, pencils and paper are always in demand.
We were thrilled to nominate the 2nd Sudbury Rainbows for a £250 donation, helping them purchase the items they need so the girls can continue enjoying outdoor adventures and creative activities together.
About MADL
MADL (Making a Difference Locally) is a charity group that Roys is part of, created to help independently run stores support the communities around them by donating to local charities and good causes.
The funds are raised through the sale of Heritage and Co-op branded products in store. By choosing these items when you shop with us, you are helping Roys support organisations and groups that make a real difference locally.

Meet our charities of the year 2026
Each year we choose new charities for our stores to support. Our stores each support their own charities, with some stores sharing a cause, which are nominated and voted by staff in the stores.
Roys will also continue to donate to other charities and groups with the MADL fund and try to help with as many other requests as possible.

How the money is raised
These donations are taken from the sales of our plastic bags. Every time you buy a carrier bag in one our stores, we donate 10p to that store's Charity of the Year. So if you forget your shopping bags, at least you're helping a great charity!

Making a Difference Locally
MADL (Making a difference locally) is a charity organisation that we've partnered with to support good causes in the local community. They help us to raise money which we donate to local charities and good causes in the community such as schools, churches, children’s groups, environmental projects and much more.

How it Works
Donations are made into our charity fund based on the sales of selected grocery products as indicated in our leaflets. Roys then donate money from this fund to local charities and good causes.
To be considered for the MADL fund or to ask for a raffle donation please contact [email protected] telling us a bit about your charity or project and how you would like help. Please note we are only able to help causes local to our stores unless there are unusual circumstances.
