Pests, problems & plagues in July

We're really in the swing of planting, harvesting & marvelling at the growth of our subterranean friends, we don't want anything bad to happen to them, do we! So while you're busy sowing and harvesting, it's definitely a good idea giving your plants a quick health checkup:

Aphids

Keep an eye out for aphids generally. Small amounts can be squashed between your finger and thumb, for more established colonies opt for organic sprays.

Asparagus Beetle

Check for Asparagus Beetle (not only on Asparagus!)

Tomato Plants

With your tomatoes, look out for patches of brown blossom-end rot.

Blight

Have an eye on your potatoes & tomatoes checking for blight.

Woolly Aphids, Mites & Rust

It's a good time to sort out any problems you're having with woolly aphids & pear leaf blister mites. And also to treat plum & pear rust.
