Solar Panels

130 New Solar Panels Brings Total at Highway to 930

Highway are proud to announce that 130 new solar panels have been installed and are up and running generating solar power. The new panels, which have been installed on the roof of a warehouse building behind the nursery, are in addition to the 800 that Highway had previously installed on the roof of the department store in April 2015, bringing the total number of panels to 930.

Due to developments in solar panel technology since the last panels were installed the new panels are much more efficient at generating solar electricity. Each of the new panels are capable of producing up to 450kW of electricity at any moment, about 200kW more than the older panels. Because of this, even though half of the panels having been installed on a north facing roof, the system has been fitted with a 40kW inverter and is expected to generate 55,000kWh per year.

What is a kWh?

kWh stands for Kilowatt Hour and is a measurement for energy usage that equals the amount of energy you would use if you kept a 1,000 watt appliance running for an hour. For example, if you switched on a 100 watt light bulb, it would take 10 hours to use up 1 kWh of energy. A kWh is the standard unit for measuring energy usage and is used by all major energy companies. You should be able to find how many kWh you've used in your own home on your electricity bill.

Between 1st february 2025 and 31st January 2026 the existing 800 solar panels at Highway produced 129,700kWh of electricity, 29% of the electricity Highway used. If the new panels perform as expected then the total amount of electricity generated is expected to be around 180-200 thousand kWh (depending on the weather), that's equivalent to boiling about 1.7 million kettles!

Highway's Charity of the Year is Heart 2 Heart Norfolk

Meet Our Charity of the Year, Heart 2 Heart Norfolk

Every year, all the stores in the Roys Family nominate and then vote for a charity of the year. The contributions to this charity mainly come from the 10p we donate from every plastic bag sale but donations in charity boxes in store and event also go into the pot.

Last year our Charity of the Year was E.A.C.H. and we raised £1,050 to donate to them.

This year we're hoping to raise even more for an important local charity and a very worthy cause - with your help!

Heart 2 Heart is a local charity set up by a woman whose daughter’s life was saved by a defibrillator. Inspired by her family’s experience, the charity works to install life-saving defibrillators throughout the community.Heart 2 Heart Norfolk

Roys & Highway donate £1050 to East Anglia's Children's Hospice

In 2025 Highway Raised £1,050 for East Anglia's Children's Hospice!

Roys are proud to announce the donation of £1,050 to Nelson's Journey, a donation which was made possible through sales of carrier bags throughout 2025.

The charity was chosen as Highway's charity of the year for 2025. The charities of the year are nominated by staff, shortlisted, and then voted for so we can support charities close to each team's hearts.

Our hospices are fun, happy and homely places for children to be children, and a dependable, supportive and restful space for families to be families.E.A.C.H.
