Six Bulbs For Autumn Colour In Your Garden

Bulbs aren't just for Spring! Here's our six favourite types of bulbs to plant for colourful blooms in Autumn. There isn't really a season for for Autumn flowering bulbs, but by picking the best of the bunch of the late summer and early winter bulbs you can have colourful bulbs all through the Autumn.

Begonia

A bit of a cheat as Begonias are more of a summer flowering plant, and cough, technically a tuber cough, but they will flower all the way into October! They come in a wide range of varieties and colours, are good for full sun, partial shade & containers, and are best planted in April or May.

Dahlia

Also a summer flowering tuber, Dahlias flower well into October like Begonias and come in even more varieties. Best planted in March or April.

Crocosmia

These tall stems of brightly coloured flowers will bloom from July to September. Plant in late spring in a sunny spot.

Autumn Crocus

You're probably already familiar with crocus' but did you know there are Autumn flowering varieties that flower from September through to November?

Amaryllis Belladonna

Beautiful long purple or green stems with big scented pink flowers that will bloom from September to November. Plant in spring or later summer in a pot on the patio or a sunny and warm border.

Nerine Bowdenii

Our favourite bulb for autumn colour! Tall stems with delicate firework shaped pink flowers that bloom from September to November.
